Academics
Kindergarten
Kindergarten is the beginning of your child’s journey in education and academics. Therefore, it sets the foundation for your child’s years in education. In the kindergarten classroom, students learn, explore, play, think, and wonder about God’s creation. They have fun, laugh, and learn to make friends. Students also listen and discuss during daily lessons and activities. They focus on classroom routines and procedures so that they can adjust to being in school all day.
1st and 2nd Grade
1st and 2nd grade are years of tremendous growth in several ways – socially, academically, and spiritually. Students spend these two years becoming more independent, developing as readers, and growing as children of God.
East Martin Christian’s core curriculum features a two-year cycle in the areas of Bible, science, and social studies.
3rd and 4th Grade
3rd and 4th grade are the years when students take the knowledge and skills that they have developed in the previous grades and apply them in new and creative ways. Their independence is increasing and their relationships are deepening, both socially and spiritually. They are developing responsibility for their own tasks and accepting the uniqueness of others. They spend time engaging in the world by exploring who God is and what He has done.

5th and 6th Grade
The 5th grade year is a year of transition from elementary to middle school. 5th graders work on developing the skills and habits necessary to become independent, responsible students who have the tools they need to be successful in middle school. These skills include academics as well as social and spiritual skills and habits. 6th grade builds on the foundations laid in fifth grade. In addition, it begins the process of preparing for high school.

The math and language arts curriculums are focused to meet your child’s needs through small group instruction. During this small group time, grade level standards are differentiated to help move your child forward to becoming proficient readers and mathematicians.
7th and 8th Grade
7th and 8th grades continue the process of preparing students for high school. In these grades, students build and refine social, problem-solving, and communication skills. They are given more responsibility and opportunities to develop leadership qualities. 8th grade students are school leaders. They also act as a class to finance their annual class trip and a gift to the school.

Educational Support Services
“I will praise you; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14a
As this verse states, we believe each child is wonderfully made with unique gifts and abilities. Because of this, EMCS offers different levels of academic, social/behavioral, spiritual, and emotional support for all of our students. We celebrate the uniqueness of each child and we encourage them in the gifts God has given them. We are committed to meeting the learning needs of all of our students. Therefore, we offer academic support, which is assisted by our partnership with All Belong.
We offer weekly music, PE, art, library, and outdoor education classes as well as our regular classes in academics.
Homeschool Partnership
East Martin Christian School is excited to offer elective course options to current homeschool students and their families in grades K-8. Homeschool students are welcome to participate in one or more core subjects or one or more specials classes. The cost for the year is $200 times the number of sessions the course meets each week. For example, if there are 5 sessions per week, the total would be $1000 for that course. The times of the classes vary based on the grade and when the subject is being taught.
If you’re interested, have questions, or would like some more information please contact Shannon Hahn at shahn@eastmartin.org or you can call the office at 269-672-5722. We look forward to hearing from you!
